and loved his troops and loved hi family. that's enough for me. >>> inaugural balls are a washington tradition, and now a limited number of tickets are going on sale for the official 2013 event. the inaugural ball is january 21st at the walter e. washington convention center. this year there will be one large event that will take place in all of the convention center's different rooms. tickets cost $60 those interested in the public tickets have to sign up on the website. that's 2013pick.org. >>> the national park service is telling its side of the story now after trying to evict the popular jack's boathouse in georgetown. a spokesman says the rental business has been operating on a month-to-month lease that hasn't changed in 30 years. the current owner's name is not on that lease. last week the park service ordered the boathouse owner to leave the property in january. it put off those plans when hundreds of mime e-mailed complains. the park service says it still plans to take bids for operating the boathouse in the space. >>> an animal rights group will have to pay the circus $9 mil
now before the end of the year. the president returned to washington from hawaii. can he lead both parties to a fiscal cliff work around. democrats have been dragging feet on this for months. they don't want to be pressured into a bad deal that doesn't come down to the nation books. >> any time you announce a meeting publicly in washington it's usually for political purposes. nothing good ever comes from it. one thing you have to do with politics if the president meets with a foreign leader you want to make sewer you know what is happening at the meeting. if the president calls congressional leader to the white house it's all political theater or they have a deal. my bet it's all political theater. >> they blame house republicans since john boehner hasn't been able to get them a deal to raise taxes. the name calling is getting ugly. >> american people don't understand the house of representative is operating without the house of representatives. it is being operated with a dictatorship of the speaker not allowing the vast majority of the council to representatives to get what they

rushing back to washington where storm clouds are gathering over the capital. the top democrat in the senate, accusing the republican speaker of the house of running a dictatorship. they say they haven't given up, but it sounds that way. >> i don't know time wise how it can happen now. >> here we are, once again, at the end of the year, staring at a crisis we should have dealt with literally months ago. >> reporter: without an agreement soon, nearly everybody takes a hit. a schoolteacher with two kids and a salary of $43,000, for example, will face a tax hike of more than $3,000. members of congress helped get us in this mess and they'll pay, too. with incomes of $174,000, they'll pay some $7,500 more in taxes. and it's not just taxes. on january 1, unemployment benefits expire for some 2 million people. you can expect one last effort, including a meeting at the white house with congressional leaders to try to prevent the fiscal cliff from happening. but with just four days left until everybody's taxes go up, there's not a lot of optimism that it can be cone in time. jonathan k
